Silas Bischoff studied classical guitar, lute and historical performance practice in Würzburg, München and Basel, where he is now doing his PhD-project on the history of evolution and development of German lute tablature at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis as part of E-LAUTE (Electronic Linked Annotated Unified Tablature Edition). His recent study on the guitarist and composer Friedrich Brand, born 1815 in Würzburg, was published in EGTA-Journal (Nr. 13, 12/2022).

Apart from that he is an active musician specialized not only in Early Music but also in contemporary music, both reaching from solo repertoire over chamber music to orchesteral works, which led him to be heard in theatres like Staatstheater Darmstadt, Theater Basel, Oper Köln, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Oper Frankfurt as well as in renowned concert halls like Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Wiener Musikverein and Wiener Konzerthaus. He found special interest in the basso continuo practice from the early italian seicento to Bach. He worked with famous musicians like oboist Albrecht Mayer, singer Sir Bryn Terfel and recorder player Maurice Steger as well as conductors like Alessandro de Marchi and François-Xavier Roth.

Silas Bischoff received scholarships from Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg and others. Since October 2021 he’s teaching at the university of music in Würzburg.
