Heidrun Rosenzweig belongs to a generation of scholars and performers who have significantly shaped the study and historically informed performance practice of the harp from the Middle Ages to the Classical period under conditions of limited source material and surviving instruments. She studied music therapy and pedal harp in Vienna.
Her specialization was shaped at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where she focused on primary sources, historical sound concepts, and performance techniques of early harps. A central focus of her work is the investigation of repertoire and performance practices on reconstructed instruments, through which previously inaccessible material is made available for performance.
Her work also includes international collaborations with early music ensembles, providing a practical framework for the development and testing of source-based approaches.
As co-founder of the historical harp class at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, she contributed significantly to the institutional and academic establishment of the field. Over more than 35 years of teaching, she has shaped generations of musicians and developed pedagogical approaches that closely integrate artistic practice with source-based research.
