Abstract

The treatise Compendium de discantu mensurabili, dated 1336, is one of the most important source texts on the theory of counterpoint and mensural notation of the Ars nova. The present edition makes it possible for the first time to compare the original text directly with two translations produced independently of each other. The two-part music examples for the mensural notation have been transcribed for this publication by Karin Paulsmeier.
